GRIDS
In an age saturated with digital images, where the boundary between human and AI-generated art is dissolving, my grid series stands as a purposeful reassertion of the unique value of the human hand. I constantly witness the uncanny efficiency and lifeless precision with which AI generates and mimics complex, highly detailed images - a fidelity so convincing it can easily fool uninitiated observers into believing a human was the creator. Crucially, however, AI remains unable to genuinely replicate true human imperfection. My series acts as a response: it is an exercise in mimicking AI's structural perfection and relentless repetition, but intentionally subverted by the crucial injection of essential human failure. Each piece in this collection starts with a rigorous, self-imposed algorithmic rule: a grid determined by precise measurements, repeated tessellations, or calculated sequences. However, this rule-set is immediately subverted by the execution. Every line is measured, drawn, and watercolored entirely by hand.
Each is watercolor and gouache with pen & ink (black lines) on 14” x 14” paper. 2023-present. Email me for purchase inquiries.
